Project Runway

Project Runway is a popular reality fashion show on NBC in the United States. It serves as a platform for young fashion enthusiasts to showcase their design talents. Contestants are tasked with designing garments and are judged by some of the world’s most renowned fashion designers. The program began production on July 4, 2006. Supermodel Heidi Klum is the founder and executive producer of the show.

The competition unfolds over 12 weeks, with each young fashion designer sponsored a certain amount of money to purchase fabrics and necessary accessories for a fashion collection. The time allocated for completing a design ranges from 5 hours to a maximum of 3 days, depending on the complexity of the design. Once finished, the design samples are showcased on the catwalk for judges to score. Each week, one less impressive designer will be eliminated.

During the competition, contestants are prohibited from leaving the apartment, where the competition takes place, from socializing with friends, and from using the internet. They must design using non-traditional materials such as wood, recycled items, waste materials, or from food, plants, flowers… and design based on the requirements set by the judging panel members such as clothing for an athlete, a model, a celebrity, or uniforms for a company.

After the competition ends, the top 3 designers will have the opportunity to showcase their collections at New York Fashion Week. The winner of the competition receives a prize of $100,000 and gets their product promoted in Elle magazine, as well as an apprenticeship with a renowned design company.
